Savcor supports local community in Papua New Guinea
Along with providing technologies and services for a major wharf refurbishment project in Papua New Guinea, Savcor has also made a valuable contribution to the local community.
The 23rd of July marked the opening of the library of the Vision and Hope Academy in Lae, PNG. What started four months ago, with a promise to collect some second-hand children’s books and puzzles for the school kids of this primary school, ended up in the opening of a library with more than a 1000 books, 100 puzzles and some sports equipment, as well as a box of soft toys and some small chairs for the kids to sit on while they are enjoying the books.
The huge response from the Savcor community and our contacts in Australia was so overwhelming that the small room allocated to house the books, needed to be enlarged and built as a proper secure building to be able to house the library.
Two Savcor delegates made the difficult journey to the remote school site to be present at the official opening ceremony.
Savcor ART Pty Ltd General Manager Petrus Siemonsma says “It is fantastic that we can help local communities with a simple but much appreciated gesture. Thanks to all the people in Australia who donated the gifts.”
The support of the Vision and Hope Academy will continue.
